You chose to have your GIS data in the cloud for good reasons; security, reliability, scalability, and the flexibility to work from anywhere. ROK has the expertise to manage your Esri software and cloud infrastructure to maximize those benefits.
To get the most out of your GIS cloud environment, it needs to be sized and configured correctly while also maintaining flexibility to adjust as requirements change. ROK makes proper GIS infrastructure management simple by monitoring your environment on a daily basis. This allows us to determine when you should scale your environment and design solutions to fit your updated needs.
ROK works with you to learn your company's specific needs and requirements before designing the right-size solution. Once the hard work of designing the cloud environment is complete, we can move onto the best part — creating and configuring!
ROK monitors your cloud environment closely. We watch the RAM, CPU, drive space, connectivity, and security of all of the elements in your environment on a daily basis. We also look at long-term trends to determine if adjustments need to be made and, most importantly, we listen to end user feedback about performance in order to make improvements.
There will come a time when changes will need to be made, such as adding drive space, adding another GIS server, or replacing an older instance type. Whatever the reason, ROK designs the right-size solution to be cost-effective and performant. When your new solution is ready to go, the beauty of the cloud is that we can make it happen in less than an hour.
ROK applies all patches and OS updates automatically. In addition, all your backup and retention needs are handled by our team, backed by an SLA and with an uptime guarantee to ensure that you don’t go down.
Overview When England-Thims & Miller’s (ETM) Geospatial Technologies team set out to expand their client-facing solution, DeepVUE Geospatial, they quickly realized their on-prem and Azure environments couldn’t keep up with demand. Frequent outages, limited IT bandwidth, and scalability challenges threatened growth. By partnering with ROK Technologies, ETM successfully migrated DeepVUE to Amazon Web Services (AWS) […]

When Kansas State University’s GIS Spatial Analysis Lab needed to overcome the limits of aging infrastructure, they envisioned a cloud-native platform that could scale with cutting-edge research. The result, Geocat, a powerful ArcGIS Enterprise environment built on AWS and supported by ROK Technologies. With Geocat, students and researchers can now run advanced 3D modeling, GeoAI, and […]
“I looked to ROK to provide a solution when Habersham’s IT department and infrastructure moved to a different location. Our GIS department needed a place for our ArcGIS® for Desktop licenses and GIS data to reside. ROK’s solution fit our needs perfectly by sending both licenses and data to the cloud. ROK also allowed for my staff’s data updates to be served out to the public efficiently as ROK provides the county with ROKMAPS/ArcGIS® Server hosting.”

Hosting options for hybrid or full cloud solutions are vast. You can either go directly to a cloud solutions provider like AWS or Azure or use a Managed Cloud Services provider who will set up and manage the environment for you. For the latter option, we would strongly suggest ensuring the MSP has previous experience standing up and managing Esri software and cloud infrastructure.
Technically yes, but there is a better way. This type of resource-intensive processing is best done on a dedicated machine. ROK can stand up a processing server for this task for very little cost in very little time. Once the processing is complete, ROK can terminate the processing server permanently, or turn it off until it is needed again. By managing the uptime of this server, costs can be kept low.
Yes, the benefit of the cloud is that ROK can help specify a time window where your staff can develop and test in the environment. Once they are done, we can automatically shut down the machines and spin them back up when they’re ready to continue. Another option is to deploy a dev environment for a few months while you test a new version or integration. Once satisfied with the testing, we can remove the machines from your environment so you only pay for what you use.
No. Instead of GIS admins and DBAs spending the majority of their time troubleshooting and maintaining the software and infrastructure, they can focus on developing and innovating with GIS. When you are calculating the opportunity cost, consider the value you can bring to your organization.
ROK provides 24/7 customer support for both your cloud infrastructure and your Esri software. We take care of every IT and GIS administrative task so you can focus on what you do best.
